Post Date:04/04/2025 9:46 AM

At the April 1, 2025 meeting, the Coos Bay City Council unanimously approved a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. The proclamation was presented by Captain Mike Shaffer and read aloud by Julie Marshall, Executive Director of the Kids’ HOPE Center. In her remarks, Julie emphasized the importance of community involvement in preventing child abuse and supporting children and families, aligning with this year’s national theme, “Powered by Hope, Strengthened by Prevention.” She also shared an update regarding the annual Family Fun Day event, noting, “The Family Fun Day—we’ve changed this year. Everyone’s used to it being the last Saturday of the month. This year we are having Family Fun Day on the 12th of April.” The City Council expressed its appreciation for the continued dedication of the Kids’ HOPE Center and its partners in raising awareness and fostering a safer, more supportive environment for the children of Coos Bay.
