During the Second Annual Ian Spalding Memorial Softball Game, held on July 20^th, City of Coos Bay dominated the diamond. City of Coos Bay faced off with City of North Bend for a rousing game of ball to help raise money for the Ian Spalding Excellence Scholarship Fund. Coos Bay’s team was comprised of representatives from the fire and police departments, library, water quality, administration, former scholarship recipients, and individuals who wanted to help out a good cause. Ian Spalding, a North Bend High School student, lost his life in 2020 at age 17. All of the money raised at the event goes towards the Ian Spalding Excellence Scholarship, which recognizes multi-sport athletes who succeed in the classroom and on the field.
