This past weekend, the Bay Area Home Show—hosted by the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce at Pony Village Mall—built on the momentum of last year’s return, continuing to grow in its second year back. The event brought together a wide range of home-related vendors and community resources, and it was wonderful to see such strong participation from across the community.

City of Coos Bay staff were proud to be part of the event, connecting with more than 230 community members over the course of the weekend and giving away nine raffle prizes. Representatives from Police, Fire, Library, Public Works, Community Development, and Administration were available throughout the event to answer questions and share information about City services and programs. In addition, the City was well represented at this year’s Family Fun Day, a well-attended and energetic community event made possible through the support of many local organizations and volunteers, with participation from the Coos Bay Police Department, Fire Department, and Library.

As we move into May, the community calendar begins to fill with opportunities to get involved and enjoy all that Coos Bay has to offer. Kicking things off is the Wine Walk on Friday, May 1, followed by the OBAB Cleanup on May 9. The Mayfly Festival returns on May 16, and we look forward to seeing community partners there as well. Looking ahead, the Star of Hope Dancing with the Stars event will take place on June 20, bringing another evening of entertainment in support of a meaningful cause.

Summer will continue to bring a variety of well-loved community events, including the 4th of July in the Park—along with a special 250th celebration scavenger hunt, with planning well underway. Later in the season, the Blackberry Arts Festival returns August 22–23, followed by the Annual Bay Area Fun Festival on September 19–20, offering additional opportunities for family-friendly fun and community connection.

With the Farmers Market opening May 6 and so many events on the horizon, there are plenty of ways to gather with friends and neighbors, enjoy the outdoors, and take part in the many activities that make Coos Bay such a special place to live.
